Scene of the Accident & Witnesses by Kelly
Our assignment challenge was to create a themed flipbook using our old material and also words or magazine pictures. The theme of my flipbook is, on one side, the scene of an accident and, on the other, witnesses to the accident. I used old photographs of the city, old homecoming pictures, a photograph from a booklet of a caricaturizing a policeman, and a car from a picture of a billboard. My arrangement of these pictures, by caricaturizing a mundane situation (the “accident” consists of one knocked over sign), is an interesting spin of the assignment challenge and effectively makes fun of people who make mountains out of molehills.
Abstract by Colton
When I was thinking of an idea of what to do on my photography booklet, I really didn’t know what to do. So I sat and thought about it and came up with having two images that kind of merge into one. I didn’t know how I was going to do this, so I started cutting an image and glued it down and filled in all the shaped holes with a different image. I think my booklet turned out great, and I am pleased with how it turned out. I know I worked hard on it because I re-did it two times.
Color VS Black & White by Lisa
When I first started this project, I had no clue what I was doing. Everyone seemed to be doing “lines” or just cutting out small pieces of magazines and gluing them to their picture book. My friends and I do this a lot where we’ll cut up something we like in strips, then mix them up, and paste them to paper in any order (kind of so it’s abstract and doesn’t show anything). I wanted to use that on this project, and show difference between colors and blacks& whites. I wish the color strips would’ve turned out bolder. I happy with it though.
The Terror of the Tonal Birds by Malissa
The birds I used in this book are from my photographs of the three seagulls. Seagulls are relatively harmless creatures, but if they were to attack I ‘m sure there would be facial expressions that looked like this. Most of the city’s citizens are shocked, but there are some who are trying to defend the magazine citizens by means of light-sabers, kung-fu, and heavy metal.
We’re All the Same by Charissa
This book, made of my products, shows many different people and their facial features. My intention was to show that no matter what race, sex, age, etc., we’re all the same. We’ve all got eyes, ears, a nose, a chin, etc., even though each one is different.
The True World by Jason
One side is based on death. It has pics of death and things that relate to death, such as religion, America, and gravestones. The other side is things not accepted by society such as Satanism, unpatriotism, music and me.
Bruised by Joy
My booklet’s theme of “Bruised” is supposed to convey the sense of lingering pain. The process of making the booklet was a kind of release for me and some of the “bruises” I have experienced lately. I incorporated colors associated with bruises and images that represent emotional pain. I especially like the square with the eye and tear because it evokes a pure sadness. “Bruised” fits as my theme in that emotional pain seems to fade with time just as bruises even though they both seem awful when they first appear.
