What is Found Art?
Found Art is creating an artwork and leaving it somewhere for someone to find. It is a great way to spread joy and goodwill in your community and connect with others. This is occurring all over the world and its mission is to make the world a better place right now by empowering people across the globe to share on a personal level. Art has the power to communicate. All people are creative and the expression of their creativity opens the heart of both the creator and the receiver. Goodwill is contagious.

How do you do it?

1. Choose materials you will create your art with. A good size might be something about the size of your hand. Smaller pieces may be too easily overlooked.

Some materials you could use are:

• mailing tags
  
• playing cards
  
• index cards
  
• postcards
  
• stiffed fabric
  
• cardboard
  
• cardstock
  
• bookmarks

2. Create your own unique art. You can do any of the following as a start.

• make a collage out of papers or things cut out of a magazine
  
• sketch a picture
  
• paint a design
  
• sew a patch
  
• stamp an image
  
• calligraphy a word or phrase
  
• write a poem

If you’d like, write your own personal message of peace or goodwill for everyone who comes into contact with your art.

3. Express yourself in any way you desire. The only rule is to keep your message positive
and uplifting

4. Slap on a sticker! Your sticker has our class website address on it where the recipient
can read about our project email us.

5. Look for places around your community to share your art. Your artwork has a hole in it
for a string to tie it to something if you need to. Choose places carefully. Make sure
that your art will be seen and not considered litter. If you are ever in doubt, ask for
permission before leaving your art behind. And never deface another’s property. If you
leave art in a library book, make sure your art is absolutely dry and will not stick to the
book’s pages.

Here are a few suggestions to get you started:

• leave on tables in a hospital waiting room
  
• hang from a tack on a bulletin board (try community bulletin boards at grocery stores)
  
• attached to the slats of a park bench
  
• leave on tables in hotel lobbies and restaurants
  
• place in books being returned to the library
  
• give to store employees who could use a smile
  
• share with friends at church or other organizations
  
• leave with your tip at a restaurant
  
• tie to your neighbor’s front door
  
• ask at nursing homes and children’s hospitals if you can leave art for their patients
  
• make one for your teacher or a relative
  
• leave in lunch boxes
